Jan Erbelding, born 1989 in Freudenstadt, Germany, studied Photography at HfG Karlsruhe and Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Jan Erbelding lives and works in Munich.

Jan Erbelding is a visual artist who works mainly with text and language - printed in zines, as audio or spoken live during performances and readings. In his texts Jan Erbelding often links himself as an artistic author - his own present, his artistic research, his longings and fears and ambivalences - with historic figures and their past lives and works and poetics and often utopian theories aimed towards developing a more just and emancipated society. Thus, in Jan Erbelding's texts, everyday life and past utopias, foreign biographies and current discourses merge into densely poetic narratives. Since 2014 Jan Erbelding is running the nomadic offspace Ruine München, in cooperation with Leo Heinik and Maria VMier.
